On the locus of immigrant writing:
"[A]ccording to [Arun] Mukherjee, [immigrant] writing is divided into two categories: 'if it deals with subject matter that alludes to where the writer came from, it is perceived as nostalgic. If, on the other hand, it has [the immigrant] content, it is automatically considered to be about an immigrant's struggle to adjust to new realities.' Nostalgia, in its association with the past, and adjustment, as a process of accommodating to an as-yet-to be determined present, are both situated in time frames that elude the current moment."
